WRITER: Mary Cooper. DIRECTOR: Andrew Breakwell. CAST: Jo Cooper, Lesley Mudd, David Smith.

Afforded an established script, a theatre technician, commissioned music and design, and additional studio runs, this was a highly polished schools' tour for Wolsey Theatre TIE. This play tells the story of 12 year old Jacques as the truth dawns about the secret his mother is keeping for him - his father is not away for work, but has left for good. A tale of how an unlikely friendship between a boy and an elderly neighbour helps both to come to terms with the realities of their lives.

Bathed in an evocative soundtrack, this bi-lingual production refused to patronise its audience, engaging their minds on a number of levels, and was warmly received by young people and adults alike.

The sad demise of the Wolsey Theatre forced the closure of Wolsey Theatre-In-Education and saw the end of a company producing theatre of the highest standard for young people. With the recent creation of the New Wolsey Theatre at the same venue, Wolsey TIE has been re-established, and there are great hopes for the work they will produce.
